About the Archive
This work is dedicated to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, for the benefit of His consecrated saints, waiting for the adoption, and of all that in every place call upon the name of the Lord, and to the groaning and travailing creation, waiting for the manifestation of the sons of God.
Pastor Russell Archive is a digital archive of publications by Pastor Charles Taze Russell and the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society from 1879 to 1916. This archive covers exclusively publications from the period of Pastor Russell's life and ministry and is not directly affiliated with any organization that continued after his death.
Purpose
The goal of this archive is to make available, in a clear and accessible format, all articles published in Zion's Watch Tower and Herald of Christ's Presence – the journal that Pastor Russell edited from its first issue in July 1879 until his death in October 1916.
These historical texts are intended to be:
- readable – carefully formatted, with proper Bible verse references,
- accessible – in English and Polish, with full-text search,
- portable – with future options for downloading to e-readers and mobile devices.
Article Authors
In the early years of the journal (1879–1881), Pastor Russell was not the sole author – the first issues featured several regular contributors. After doctrinal disagreements in the early 1880s, most of these collaborators departed, and Pastor Russell gradually assumed full editorial control. From approximately 1883–1884, the vast majority of articles were his own writing.
Articles not authored by Pastor Russell are – where known – marked accordingly in the archive.
